Building Value Is Better Than Making Money

Making Bucks

At the start of a new site, it’s often times better to build value to the new site instead of trying to monetize from it immediately. A good example is YouTube. They’ve built quite the following and I’m sure at some point Google will start making big money off the site.

Here’s another example: As a programmer, it’s usually better to write your own scripts and sell them over and over again – instead of just doing custom script jobs for others.

A writer is better off writing for his own blog rather than writing guest posts for other peoples’ blogs.

In closing – building value and spending time on your own sites first is better in the long run than chasing the quick buck.

Staying Humble Despite Success

Apr 24 2008 Ethics No comments

Im Rich

When success hits you, whether by luck or hard work, it’s usually a time to reflect on your past. When you do that usually there’s negative thoughts about people in your past who doubted you, competed with you or who cheated you in some way.

These so-called negative influences actually were a driving force for you though. You wanted to prove them wrong and now that you have – you want payback. So it’s time to buy fancy things and flaunt them in their face. It’s time to show off your recent success. That’s what they deserve don’t they?

But see, in your financial climb upwards, you have passed them and now you can look down on them. If that’s what you decide to do be forewarned that: every person you look down upon as you climb upwards, they will be there if you fall back down again.

Despite your success, stay humble, stay grounded. The true mark of a winner in life is not only how you handle failure but how you handle success.

Top 5 Characteristics of a Thriving Telecommuter

Many people daydream about what it would be like quit their drab office job and work from home. A work-at-home professional, or telecommuter, has the opportunity to relax at home while earning money. Thanks to the Internet, there are now dozens of careers that can be established from home. From Web developers to customer service representatives, more people work in their pajamas than you realize.

My point is this: no matter what kind of field you are in, there is surely a related telecommuting position you could pursue. There are certain characteristics a person must possess in order to find success with telecommuting. Listed below are the top five.

Tax Time Is Here (April 15th)

 IRS

Another year goes by and it’s time to file your taxes again. If you haven’t done so, what are you waiting for? If you need more time, you can file for an extension free of charge. You get 6 more months to file. This IRS page will explain what form you need to print and mail in.

I did mine in early March this year and managed to get a refund within a few weeks. Direct deposit is great, I bet it saves them time and money and you get your money quicker. Whenever I owe money, I set the date of withdrawal to be right before taxes are due so they don’t get my money early.

The IRS expects more returns this year than ever before because of the rebates we’re getting. You only get one if you file your taxes this year. If you file an extension you’ll still get your rebate check – but you’ll get it after you send in your taxes. If you’ve done your taxes already you should be expecting your rebate as early as next month.

Jealousy Is Healthy

Jealousy

Why is jealousy a healthy attribute? First, what is jealousy?

Jealousy is envy, bitterness and overall unhappiness because of another’s possessions.

Human beings are built with a fear mechanism that automatically triggers when they perceive danger. Likewise, one can imagine the cavemen hundreds of thousands of years ago envious of a fellow tribesman meal or place of habitation. What does it lead to? The next morning that jealous creature goes hunting for a bigger kill, so he creates better tools. He then uses his brains and brawns to build a stronger residence.

Jealousy is one of the main components in what drives man to better himself. So remember: jealousy is healthy, jealousy has always been around, and jealousy is what will keep you motivated through thick and thin.

YouTube

YouTube is a treasure trove of bored people surfing around for videos. Millions of videos get seen on a daily basis. So it seems like this would be a good place to market your products. But how? Here are some YouTube marketing tips..

* Create a unique, funny, or weird viral video and “watermark” your URL on the bottom right hand corner of the video.

* Create a ridiculous commercial for your product. You’ve got to make it way out there.

* The final tip is controversial: Add comments to other videos and finish each comment with your URL at the bottom.
